HELSINKI, Finland - Former Auckland City FC and Papua New Guinea international forward David Browne has won the Finnish Cup with HJK Helsinki.
HJK defeated Inter Turku 2-0 in the final winning eight games and drawing one en route to the title.
Browne scored three goals for HJK including two in the Veikkausliiga and one in the Cup.
The 24-year-old Browne played 82 games for Auckland City FC and scored 21 goals after making his debut for the Navy Blues in 2014.
HJK Helsinki's win guarantees them European football next season.
Browne's previous sojourn on the European continent saw him turn out for Dutch clubs PEC Zwolle and Groningen but its with HJK Helsinki where the technically gifted forward is making his big impact.
Upon signing for HJK last season, Browne described the experience positively.
For me Helsinki is a great city and HJK is a great club with so much history and it's great to be part of this club," he told the HJK club website.
"For the season the staff and the management have put together a great squad. The first couple of weeks we've had a good start and for us we want to compete every match and win everything possible," he said.
In a bruising Cup final encounter at the Veritas Stadion in Turku, goals either side of the break from Finnish international Roope Riski gave HJK Helsinki a memorable 2-0 victory.
Browne has made 19 appearances since signing for the club.
