Joao Moreira didn't allow the disappointment of a missed penalty to detract from the Navy Blues 4-0 win over Tasman United on Saturday.

The former Portugal U-21 striker miscued a penalty kick wide of the target in the first half with his team 2-0 up over the Richard Anderson-coached side.

But, rather than let his shoulders slump, Moreira focused on doing his best for the team as they chased a second consecutive win.

"Sometimes those things can happen but what is most important is we got the win.

"It doesn't matter if I missed the penalty or not. I kept on working for the team and that was the most important thing," he said.

The Navy Blues have scored eight goals in two games with Moreira in top form and he knows exactly why Auckland City FC have turned around their opening day fortunes - a derby defeat to Waitakere United.

"After we lost to Waitakere United we were very disappointed with the result.

"Everybody is now focused and working hard during the week and this is the result so we must be happy," he said.

The Navy Blues next match is with Canterbury United on Sunday 6 November at Kiwitea Street at 2pm.
