AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Jose Figueira is a happy man after his Navy Blues overcame Eastern Suburbs 2-0 in the Gridlock Derby at Madills Farm today.

Goals from Brian Kaltak and Myer Bevan were enough to give Auckland City FC a comfortable victory and restore their three point lead over Team Wellington at the top of the table.

It was also a sixth Charity Cup win for the Navy Blues and Figueira's first trophy as head coach of Auckland City FC.

"Firstly, I'm delighted with the win. Over the course of the game I thought we were thoroughly deserving of the win in difficult conditions in a venue that is a difficult place to come and play.

"But the way the boys played was very very good and Conor made a point blank save early in the second half when it was 0-0.

"We've contained a very good team and created a hole host of chances. It was a great day and great to have that three point buffer.

"The way we progressed the ball and built the lay up in the second half and they came out pressing trying to use the wind.

"The last goal wads a great connection and the work we put in finally came off which was great for the front three. Two more games remain in teh regular season to make sure we tick things off nicely.

"Southern gave Team Wellington a close run yesterday so they have a mathematical shot at the playoffs and we won't take that lightly and make sure our preparation is good and we put in another strong performance like we did today," he said.
