DUNEDIN, New Zealand - Auckland City FC have drawn a blank for the second week in a row in the ISPS Handa Premiership after a goalless clash with Southern United in Dunedin.

Southern United made their intentions clear from the outset, sitting deep and inviting the Navy Blues to dominate possession while the home side waited for counter attacking opportunities.

The Navy Blues created several decent chances in the first half with Myer Bevan going close and Yousif Ali putting an opportunity over Liam Little's crossbar.

The visitors had a shout for a penalty on the half hour mark but referee Dan Woulahan showed no interest in pointing to the spot.

Auckland City FC's domination continued in the second half with Cam Howieson's dipping volley just missing Little's right-hand upright just after the restart.

That set the tone for a half in which the Navy Blues laid seige to Southern United's goal with a multitude of chances either saved by Little or missing the target.

The result created several pieces of history with the Navy Blues unbeaten run against Southern United extending to 31 games with the last defeat recorded in 2005 - but also saw the Kiwitea Street men achieve consecutive goalless draws for the first time in the ISPS Handa Premiership.

It was also the first time Auckland City FC have failed to score in back-to-back matches in the domestic top flight.

Auckland City FC's next match in the ISPS Handa Premiership is on 11 January next year when they take on Waitakere United in the first Super City derby of the campaign.
