CAMBRIDGE, New Zealand - Auckland City FC have fired an ISPS Handa Premiership warning after they disposed of Hamilton Wanderers 5-0 at John Kerkof Park in Cambridge today.

A brace from in-form Myer Bevan, an own goal and strikes from international pair Logan Rogerson and comeback man David Browne were enough to down Ricki Herbert's side on a warm day in the heart of the Waikato.

The hosts - who defeated Eastern Suburbs AFC 3-0 in a major upset last week - were unable to stem the flow of goals that began on the half hour mark when Rogerson notched his second goal of the campaign to open the scoring.

Wanderers turned the ball into their own net eight minutes later before Bevan put the game to bed before halftime from the penalty mark to hand the Navy Blues a 3-0 advantage.

Bevan was at it again on 60 minutes when he bagged his second goal of the game to take his season tally to an already impressive six from just three matches.

With Auckland City FC running riot, coach Jose Figueira was afforded the luxury of pitching Browne and Angel Berlanga into action after a period of injury for the vital pair.

Browne made use of the opportunity to complete the rout with a goal three minutes from the end while Berlanga's brief cameo took his career tally for Auckland City FC to 202 matches, just one short of equaling the record of 203 held by former All Whites defender James Pritchett.

Clayton Lewis also made a return to the Navy Blues after two years with Scunthorpe United when he replaced Dylan Manickum midway through the second half.

While Auckland City FC were thinking about milestones, Hamilton Wanderers were left counting the cost when substitute Will Stephen was given a straight red card two minutes into additional time.

Figueira was visibly bouyed by what he witnessed but was quick to point out that improvements were necessary as the season gathers pace.

"I'm delighted - we wanted to build the momentum on from the last couple of weeks and we finished strong last week to secure a point and to see us build on that and come to a difficult place and come away with a strong performance.

"It was a strong performance, very controlled and we showed a lot of quality with the ball and great to score some goals and top class goals and keep a clean sheet.

"The boys that came on made a positive impact with Clayton showing quality touches and David Browne's fantastic solo goal. It was a strong performance and we're slowly finding our momentum.

"We need to build on our connections and times where movements and timings aren't quite there but 5-0 says enough that it was a really good performance so it's about maintaining standards and building on the good stuff," he told www.aucklandcityfc.com.

Elsewhere, Waitakere United were held to a 1-1 draw by Canterbury United, Eastern Suburbs AFC took all three points after a 4-2 thrashing of Southern United in Dunedin and Hawke's Bay United downed Tasman United 2-0 at Bluewater Stadium with both teams ending the game with ten men.

Team Wellington take on the Wellington Phoenix at David Farrington Park tomorrow in the Wel Classico at 2pm NZST.

The Navy Blues next match is at Westpac Trust Stadium when they travel to the capital to take on Wellington Phoenix on Saturday 23 November 2019.

The match kicks off at 3pm NZST.
